Food fraud vulnerability assessment training modules

SSAFE and MSU Develop Food Fraud Vulnerability Assessment Training Modules

SSAFE is proud to announce that, in collaboration with Dr. John Spink from Michigan State University, it has launched two training modules to help companies better understand food fraud (video 1) and how to use the SSAFE Food Fraud Vulnerability Assessment (FFVA) tool.

As food fraud continues to be a key risk for the food industry, continuous efforts are being made across the food sector to help combat fraudulent activities and protect consumers. To support this effort SSAFE launched a free Food Fraud Vulnerability (FFVA) tool in 2016 in 10 languages for food companies to conduct their own assessment.

The tool has been a great success with 29,502 downloads of the tool to date. In addition, there are more than 7,500 completed online assessments from over 70 countries.

Even though many companies are already using the tool, we have received many questions about food fraud generally and the FFVA tool specifically. These videos have been designed as an introduction to both. We hope you enjoy them.

The number of food safety issues occurring in agricultural production at the farm level is on the rise. These issues include such problems as cross-contamination (allergens and other contaminants) due to bad growing and harvesting practices, undeclared ingredients, illegal dyes, incorrect pesticide use, improper use of chemicals, and others.

Member Interviews

SSAFE has been working diligently over the past 20 years to strengthen the safe supply and trade of food around the world. Our Board Members are key to that success so in October 2022 we asked our members (recognized leaders from across the food sector) why they love their job, why their work is so important, and why they support SSAFE.
