ISO 22002-5 for storage & transport

Project Overview

Storage and transportation are integral elements in the food supply chain. Growers and food processors rely on proper storage and transportation practices to ensure that their products arrive safely at the final destination and in good condition.

To help storage and transportation companies meet ISO 22000, SSAFE is working with ISO in the development of a set of requirements that specify establishing, implementing and maintaining prerequisite programmes (PRPs) specifically for transport and storage in the food chain to assist in controlling food safety hazards.

It will be applicable to all organizations, regardless of size or complexity, which are involved in transport and storage activities across the food supply chain, that wish to implement PRPs in such a way as to address the requirements specified in ISO 22000.

The number of food safety issues occurring in agricultural production at the farm level is on the rise. These issues include such problems as cross-contamination (allergens and other contaminants) due to bad growing and harvesting practices, undeclared ingredients, illegal dyes, incorrect pesticide use, improper use of chemicals, and others.
