WHO IS SSAFE?

SSAFE is a non-profit membership driven organisation that aims to foster the continuous improvement and global acceptance of internationally recognized food protection systems and standards through public private partnerships. What makes SSAFE unique is its focus on driving collaboration between the public and private sector to enhance the integrity of the food supply chain.

SSAFE is an organization whose contribution to the integrity of the food system is evidenced by our partnerships and the projects we deliver. These include relationships forged with a diverse group of organizations ranging from the the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) in Paris and Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) in Rome to the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) in the Americas. Alongside SSAFE's work with these groups our projects have recently taken SSAFE to India and China to build food safety capacity, development of a global food safety framework for dairy farmers, a tool to mitigate agains food fraud, and a guide on how to manage food safety in M&A.

What ssafe does

History of ssafe

2004

The idea of SSAFE is born as the founding members engage in dialogue with the OIE and FAO while taking collective action to combat the spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza and protect public health in endemic regions.

2008

SSAFE is formally incorporated as a non-profit organization with members from the private sector, ngos and academia. Memoranda of understanding (mous) are signed with OIE, FAO, GFSI, and we achieve observer status with codex and liaison status with iso.

2012

More members join SSAFE, providing broader representation of the food supply chain and enabling emerging issues to be addressed more holistically through effective project work.

2016

SSAFE continues to mature by expanding its partnerships and launching a series of new projects across the world to help strengthen the integrity of the food supply chain.

2020

More members join SSAFE, our branding and website are refreshed, and a review of our strategy reinforces our focus on projects and the core mission and vision.
